Job Description:
findfolks is partnering with a company that builds and operates automated drill rigs to accelerate mineral discovery. Mining is a trillion-dollar industry, but the drills used to explore haven't changed in nearly 100 years. Mines are becoming harder to find, which is a danger to the future of civilization. Our mission is to change that. The first step is mass production of automated drilling rigs to find more mines, faster. That is just the beginning.
About the Role
As a Senior Controls Engineer, you will develop and build a great variety of automated solutions for next-generation drilling rigs. You will design schematics, integrate sensors and actuators, and write closed-loop PLC code to create the rig of the future for high-volume drilling production, maximizing exploration impact around the globe.
Note: You don't need mining or drilling experience to excel in this role.
Requirements:
Participate in initial equipment conceptual development and carefully balance product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits.
Lay out new industrial electrical control panels that are NFPA79/NEC/UL508A compliant and create electrical, pneumatic, and fluid schematics.
Architect, write, and debug PLC code, emphasizing generating organized, structured, documented, maintainable, and reusable code for manufacturing applications.
Generate aesthetically simple HMI screens for complex machinery while providing sufficient feedback for troubleshooting.
Manage electrical cabinet builds, field wiring, pneumatic, and fluid plumbing.
Select and size electrical and electromechanical components such as servo motors and controllers.
Deploy automated processes and equipment into production.
Set, implement, and maintain schedules and budgets to ensure project completion.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Must be willing to work from our headquarters in El Segundo
• Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed
Qualifications:
In-depth PLC programming experience, preferably Beckhoff TwinCat 3 & Siemens TIA Portal.
Electrical schematic CAD experience using EPlan, SOLIDWORKS Electrical, or similar.
HMI and SCADA programming experience (Python and/or SQL experience is a plus).
Practical understanding of fieldbus networks (EtherCAT, Profinet, Ethernet/IP) and networking concepts for distributed I/O and real-time data flows.
Hands-on experience building and commissioning high-quality electrical control panels and electro-mechanical systems (working knowledge of industrial robots such as KUKA, ABB, or Fanuc is a plus).
Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 79, and UL508A codes for electrical panel design, component sizing, and installation in potentially hazardous environments.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Experience in fast-paced iterative design and manufacturing environments.
Experience solving complex problems with little to no supervision on schedule as an individual or an integrated team member.
Have a bias to action, take pride in your work, and care more about getting to the right solution than being right.
Benefits
Everyone is an owner, so as the company grows, your equity grows too.
You’ll have the freedom and resources to try new things and iterate quickly.
We also offer 100% healthcare coverage (medical, dental, vision), all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) are paid for when you're at headquarters, and we can help you find housing nearby.
